In 1993, a short time after the fall of communism in Central Europe and sensing opportunities in his ancestral home, József (IV) moved back to Hungary. Through the compensation process and acquisitions the Hunyadys were able to recover portions of what had been their family’s estates.

In 2000 the Hunyadys planted the first vineyards, Pinot Noir, which produced the first wine in 2004. József made his home in the Lehner Manor House, a farm complex dating to the turn of the 20th century, that comprises 6 buildings. He restored the buildings preserving their original structure. He and his family live in the manor house, the grain barn has been transformed into a guest house (The Bat Barn).

József and Etienne Hunyady, the owners of the Hunyady Estate, grew up in Bolgheri (Italy) where their grandfather, Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, “invented” the famous “Super Tuscan” wine – Sassicaia.

József worked for a year in the United States for wine importer Kobrand Corporation. There he gained expereince in the marketing and the distribution of wine. He has an MS degree in Biology from the Universtity of Illinois at Chicago and a BA in Economics and History from Colby College in Maine.

Since 1994 József lives in Hungary and manages the Hunyady properties. József is also active in the nature protection of the region. He is the president of the Green Corridor Foundation, which acquires and manages land important for conservation in the region that stretches from Lake Balaton to the Drava River, on the border with Croatia. He also has a leading role in the Somogy Regional Association for Nature conservation.

Etienne (Stefano) is based in Bolgheri. Among his works as photographer are the books “Sassicaia”, "Italian Country Hideways" and "Luxury Houses Toskana" as many other promotional publications for Italian wineries and estates. He has a BA in French Literature from Connecticut College, an AAS degree in Photography from the Parson's School of Design in New York, NY and a MBA from Bocconi SDA in Milano.
